Hair tint = permanent colour. Uses ammonia and twenty-plus volume developer. Penetrates deep into the cortex and oxidises. Stays until it grows out or is cut off. Can lighten natural colour by several levels. Full grey coverage. Creates visible regrowth line. Hair gloss = demi-permanent. Uses gentler alkaline agents and ten volume developer or less. Deposits on and just beneath the cuticle. Washes out over four to six weeks. Cannot lighten natural colour. No regrowth line — fades evenly. Adds spectacular shine and refreshes tone.

Choose gloss for refreshing faded colour, adjusting tone (neutralising brassiness or adding warmth), adding shine without commitment, or trying a subtle change. Many colour services combine both: tint on roots for coverage, gloss through lengths for shine and tone.
